Paranoid… That’s certainly one way to put it!
They say that once you reach a certain age (and by “they” I am referring to my Mother’s dermatologist), anyhow, they say that once you are a certain age, your skin has reached its proverbial “peak”, and will thus begin its descent into mediocrity. It will start to wrinkle, and warp accordingly…
Ironically I am 22 years old now, the age of said peak, and I gotta say, I couldn’t be more paranoid.
Since I have received a few agitated–and can I say judgmental–glances from some people who I considered even in the slightest tolerant of my beauty/skin-care obsession, the judgement is beginning to take its toll on me.
So I got to thinking:
What would be the perfect way to interchange between my already fantastic Bella Terra Cosmetics Anti-Aging product regiment, and something less extreme?
Then I had an epiphany: If I could use something that I already had in my kitchen, then surely I would incite a little less non-verbal judgement from those near and dear to me, right?
I dub this post:
“How to Firm the skin with items in your Kitchen”
That’s right! We are about to make some homemade skin firming cream; or at least something that does the same thing…
This is something that you can use on weeks where you are still waiting for your Bella Terra Cosmetics products to reach your doorstep, or just as;
Something that will complement your already flawless routine!
Homemade Skin Firming Cream? But, why?
Considering the global economy in this day and age, and everything else that contributes to free-radicals that make us gorgeous people age prematurely, I have always tried to be both extreme and frugal at the same time, in the sense that I love Bella Terra Cosmetics’ range, and compared to some of its peers, this brand is does not contribute to malnourishment of the purse.
Even frugality won’t keep me from being luxe, though. Oh yes!
Considering this economy, a homemade skin firming cream is probably much more luxurious than just purchasing Bella Terra Cosmetics’ Anti-Aging skincare range.
There I said it! Fresh produce is expensive ya’ll–but it’s totally worth it, since you will know exactly what is going on your face!
Anyhow, if you feel that you want to treat yourself, I asked a few people, read some articles, and watched few videos on homemade skin firming creams, and to tell you the truth, I was pretty darn excited to give them each a go!
Before we make our Homemade Skin Firming Cream; here are my recommendations
Before you turn your kitchen into your beauty shop, if you don’t already have a cosmetic mixing bowl, please consider setting aside a new, reusable storage dish so you don’t end up smelling like last week’s dinner.
Some of these creams will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week. Save some time by making good-sized batch, so that’s why I would recommend using a reusable storage container, as opposed to just mixing, and storing in a bowl. How do you say; Yuck?
A homemade skin firming cream will only be able to do so much, that’s why I like to interchange between that and some much more high quality products from the Bella Terra Cosmetics’ Anti-Aging range…
Better ingredients provide better results!
Honey as a Homemade Skin Firming Cream, or Emulsion
When it comes to firming and tightening, honey is definitely the product to beat!
All the articles that I read, all the Youtube videos that I watched, and this flower juice was high up on the ranks.
Tried and tested, pure, raw honey has been used for years. As a matter of fact, some Egyptian Pharaoh tombs were excavated and they found honey which was still edible hundreds of years later, because honey is one of the best natural preservatives around…
It is chock-full of vitamins, minerals, and even amino acids (the building blocks of collagen), making it one of the sweetest natural beauty products there is- literally and figuratively.
To use the Honey Homemade Skin Firming Cream, simply:
- Place a warm, damp towel over your face for a few minutes to open your pores.
- Smear the honey over your face, and leave it on for up to 15 minutes.
- Wipe the honey off, and place a cool damp towel over your face for a couple of minutes to help your pores close.
Result: Skin does feel softer, but I didn’t really get a stiff, tight feeling thank goodness. If you are looking for that then; let’s move on to the next one!
Egg Whites as a Homemade Skin Firming Cream, or Foam
Egg whites are a close second–plus, having eggs at home is way more common that having pure honey. Ancient Egyptians may have been much more fortunate than us in that regard.
Eggs are pretty much a staple at any kitchen after all, unless of-course you happen to be vegan, in which case I would like to direct your attention immediately to the next option.
Aside from the fact that eggs are so common, egg whites are popular for skin firming simply because of the protein that they have. This protein gives your skin’s elasticity a big boost.
To use the Egg White Homemade Skin Firming Cream, foam:
- Simply beat one egg white until it forms soft peaks.
- Then apply it to your face, and let it dry.
- Rinse with cool water for firmer skin.
Result: If you wanted stiff, then you can rest assured, because OMG is this skin firming cream foam situation stiff. Like you literally cannot move your face, or laugh when you have the mask on, which ironically only makes you want to laugh even more. So not cool.
Recommendations: I like to use my leftover egg yolks in fried rice, but I have seen some people chuck them down the garbage disposal. Please don’t do that? If you don’t like the taste of eggs, make the dish for somebody else.
I know I sound like such a den mother for saying this, but there’s nothing truly more aggravating than food wastage, especially in this economy.
That’s definitely not B word!
Bananas as a Homemade Skin Firming Cream
To tighten sagging neck skin, pores, or visage; you can make a firming mask using banana.
While it may sound like a delicious prank, by simply mashing some ripened bananas, you can make a wonderful skin firming cream.
How to use the Banana Homemade Skin Firming Cream
Simply mash your ripened bananas (as many as you can find). This is especially fabulous since you were going to chuck those ripened puppies anyhow, so this is a great way to make up for that.
Leave on for up to 15 minutes and then rinse.
Recommendations: Add a little lemon juice to keep the bananas from browning, if you make a large batch.
I haven’t tried this yet, because unfortunately bananas are not in-season, and so I couldn’t find any at the green grocer…
Yogurt as a Homemade Skin Firming Cream
This might come as a surprise, but don’t you know that I really didn’t think that Yogurt was going to make this list? I just never think about it when “homemade skin firming cream” comes to mind.
So imagine my shock when I found out that plain yogurt is an ingredient that is often used in a majority of expensive skin firming creams?!
Yogurt is not only healthy to eat since it is full of Vitamin D, probiotics, calcium, and even protein, but it also does wonders when applied directly on your skin too.
It moisturizes, fights acne, fixes discoloration, relieves sunburn, and yes, helps tone and firm too–now that is a pretty long list for just one product–one smelly product–but it’s miraculous…
How to use the Yogurt Homemade Skin Firming Cream
Spread some over your face,
Leave for about 10 to 15 minutes, then
Rinse and pat dry.
Recommendations: Use it alone, or mix it with some of the other ingredients used here, like a little bit of honey and banana, or a little bit of shredded cucumber for a rejuvenating skin firming cream.
Mix and Match your Homemade Skin Firming Creams
Most of the homemade skin firming cream ingredients listed here can be mixed together in a variety of ways to produce the best cream for your skin.
For example, you could mix some honey and egg white together, or add honey to the banana.
Or you can mix them all together.
Other ingredients can be added, like peaches, avocados and almond oil.
Experiment with different combinations until you find the one you like most.
It is usually best to try one cream for at least a couple of weeks before switching to a new one, unless you have some kind of reaction (rash, acne breakouts, etc.).
Everyone’s skin is unique, and this will allow you to tell which ingredients actually work best for your skin.
Additionally, since all of the ingredients found here are all natural, you can use these creams as often as your skin will let you – meaning that you could use them every day, but if you begin to experience any skin irritation simply cut back to 2 or 3 times per week or only once a week.
